Frequently Asked Questions
How will I know when I need a new roof?
The easiest way is by doing a visual inspection to look for a worn, peeling, cracked, old or leaking roof. Leaks might be occurring without being noticeable, so also look for stains on the ceiling.
How will I know if I need a new roof or just a repair?
If the roof looks in good shape, it most likely only needs repairs. However, if your roof is past its life expectancy (20-25 years for shake or wood shingles, 12-20 years for composition shingles, 12-15 years for rock roofs), you should consider a new roof. A roofing professional will also be able to assist you in that decision.
What type of roofing materials are available?
Orian Construction & Roofing, Inc offers a variety of roofing materials: shingles (composition, wood), metal, tiles, slates, built-up, single ply, and modified bitumen. Most come in a variety of styles and colors.
What is single ply and built-up roofing?
Single ply roofing is made from large waterproof sheets applied directly to the roof deck or on top on insulation. Built-up systems are multiple layers of fiberglass felts adhered with asphalt and surfaced with various products.
What is modified bitumen?
Modified bitumen roofs are factory fabricated sheets of fiberglass or polyester, laminated with rubberized asphalt.
Do my solar panels have to be removed to install the new roof?
Generally yes, as most solar panels are mounted into the existing roofing material. They will have to be removed by a licensed plumber to insure they are removed and re-installed correctly. Removing solar panels prior to the re-roof will also insure that the new roof is installed correctly.
